AURORA | An Aurora man is facing a felony child abuse charge after his girlfriend’s toddler son was seriously injured Wednesday at an Aurora apartment, police said.
Police arrested Theodore I. Madrid, 30, Wednesday afternoon at an apartment in the 100 block of Dayton Street.
According to a statement from Aurora police, officers responded to the home that afternoon on a 911 call.
When officers arrived they found the toddler, who was in Madrid’s care, suffering life-threatening injuries.
The child, whose name and age were not released, was taken to a local hospital where he remained Thursday afternoon. Police declined to release further information about the child’s condition.
Madrid’s girlfriend was also in the apartment but police declined to say if anyone besides Madrid could face charges, saying only that the investigation is ongoing.
Madrid was arrested on suspicion of felony child abuse and misdemeanor charges of resisting arrest and obstructing an officer. Police declined to discuss details of the misdemeanor charges.
According to Colorado Bureau of Investigation records, Madrid had been arrested 12 times in Colorado before Wednesday’s arrest, mostly on alcohol related charges and charges he failed to appear in court. Madrid, who goes by the nickname “Snoop,” was last arrested in July by Thornton police on a charge he failed to appear in court in a domestic violence case, according to CBI.
