AURORA | A woman whose 22-month-old daughter was killed while wandering alone in a parking lot has been arrested on a child abuse charge, police said.
Karen Charlene Pena, 30, was arrested Thursday afternoon on a charge of child abuse resulting in death stemming from the May 27 of her daughter, Laniece Fletcher.
Police said Fletcher was struck by a commercial van in an apartment parking lot in the 900 block of South Zeno Way.
Investigators from the department’s traffic bureau and crimes against children unit worked on the case, police said.
The driver of the van has not been charged with a crime, police said.
Police have not released Pena's mug shot.
