Juvenile shot after car break in

A juvenile was shot in the torso early Friday by a man who caught the boy breaking into the man's car, police said.

No names have been released and the shooter was released without charges. Police said the DA's office will make the final ruling on charges.

The boy's injuries are not life threatening, police said.

The incident happened  in a neighborhood near South Tower Road and East Floyd Avenue.

NATURE:                  Non-fatal Shooting

At approximately 3:15 this morning, Aurora Police Officers responded to a call of shots fired in the 3200 block of South Bahama Street. A few minutes later, a call was aired of a shooting victim in the 17700 block of East Eldorado Place, a few blocks away from the shots fired call.

Officers responding to the 17700 block of East Eldorado found a juvenile male suffering from a single gunshot wound to the torso. He was transported to a local hospital where he was treated for a non-life threatening gunshot wound, where he remains.

Officers responding to the call of shots fired were told by witnesses that a resident of a house in the 3200 block of South Bahama Street had shot someone who was breaking into the resident’s car.

Officers contacted the homeowner, who said he confronted a male who was breaking into his car which was parked in the driveway. During the confrontation the homeowner shot the suspect.

The homeowner responded to Police Headquarters, where he was interviewed and then released by the investigators.

The Arapahoe County District Attorney’s Office will review the case and decide which, if any, charges will be filed against the homeowner.

Police officers responding to the shots fired call discovered eight to twelve vehicles in the area of the 3200 block of South Bahama Street that had been broken into last night. Investigators will also be following up on those vehicle break-ins to determine if they are related to the juvenile who was shot.
