Sheriff’s Office Conducts Compliance Check Operation
The Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office continues to be concerned about the use of alcohol by young people in Arapahoe County. Effective intervention of this issue requires the cooperation of the entire community to protect our young people and provide a safe place to live and conduct responsible business. To that end, throughout the course of the year the Sheriff’s Office conducts random, unannounced compliance checks to ensure businesses are adhering to the liquor codes.
On Friday, September 24, 2010, between 4:30 PM and 10:30 PM, the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office Public Safety Bureau conducted compliance checks regarding the sale of alcoholic beverages to individuals less than 21-years of age. Several minor aged volunteers were instructed to attempt to purchase alcohol while under the direct supervision of Sheriff’s Deputies. The liquor investigation was conducted at each of the 75 establishments that are licensed to sell packaged alcoholic beverages in the City of Centennial and unincorporated Arapahoe County.
During the investigation, three establishments sold alcoholic beverages to individuals who were underage. The establishments that sold alcohol during the investigation were identified as:
Safeway Store
7375 East Arapahoe Road
Camelot Liquors
18525 East Smoky Hill Road
Smartco Grocery Store
1442 South Parker Road
The employees who sold alcohol during the compliance check investigation have been
charged with a violation of Colorado Revised Statute 12-47-901 - Unlawful Acts-Sale of
alcoholic beverage to a minor, a class 2 misdemeanor.
