Suspect in Sept. 22 shooting not expected to survive
By Brandon Johansson
AURORA | A man suspected of a crime spree that included robbing a bank and shooting a relative is not expected to survive after shooting himself last week as police closed in on him.
Isaac Martinez, 31, remained hospitalized Friday, seven days after police say he shot himself in the head as a SWAT Team stormed a hotel room in Black Hawk where he was hiding.
A police department spokeswoman said police do not expect Martinez to survive his injuries.
Martinez’s brother-in-law, Andre Lopez-Baker, 28, who police say Martinez shot Sept. 22 outside a home in the 1150 block of South Fairplay Circle, also remained hospitalized Friday.
Police said they expect Lopez-Baker to survive.
Police said they identified Martinez as a suspect in Lopez-Baker’s shooting the day after the shooting and realized he was also a suspect in three other crimes in recent weeks.
The first was a home invasion robbery Sept. 9.
Police say Martinez robbed a Wells Fargo bank Wednesday afternoon at 2222 S. Buckley Road. Later that day, he threatened someone at a bar near Parker Road and East Quincy Avenue.
After that incident, police say Martinez shot Lopez-Baker at the home near East Mississippi Avenue and South Chambers Road.
Police say they tracked Martinez last Friday to a hotel in Black Hawk.
As the Black Hawk/Gilpin County SWAT Team stormed the room, Martinez shot himself, police said. He remained hospitalized Sunday.
According to Colorado Bureau of Investigation records, Martinez has a lengthy arrest record in Colorado dating back to 1997.
Martinez, who goes by the nickname “Clumsy,” has been arrested on charges including harassment, aggravated assault and selling cocaine, according to CBI.
He also spent time in prison on an assault with a deadly weapon charge in late 2000.

Isaac was not just the person you see here. He was a wonderful, loving, kind and caring man also. He had a beautiful talent for landscaping and even ran his own business. Together we had two of the most beautiful children ever. Isaac was a hard worker and would give his family everything he could. The paper can report the facts of a crime, but they never mention the emotions and reasons for the crimes. Our children will grow up knowing what a wonderful man he was.
ReplyDeletei hope he makes it i went to school with him he is good people. not what this article makes him out to be at all
ReplyDeleteYes I was married to a relative of his wife and worked for him doing landscaping. He had a huge heart and was one of the most solid people out there. He loved his wife and baby with everything he had. His family was meant everything to him. He had a very successful landscaping company and had a college degree in that field. I don’t know his whole life story, just the bit from when I worked for him, but I saw him conquer every roadblock thrown at him by our extremely flawed “justice” system without even blinking. He definitely is not what they are trying to make him look like in this article just so people will buy their story and not ask questions.

ReplyDeletehi
ReplyDeleteMy dad was not the bad guy this article makes him to be, my dad taught me how to be respectful loving kind and he also showed me to also put family first. He was never married but he does have many kids that miss him very much. Marquise being his oldest son then myself (Anjelica) , also Dom Mary Ray Isaac and I believe Ethan. All I have ever seen was a loving father that would do anything to keep his kids safe and happy. We have no idea what my father was going through and no one would or will ever understand unless they been through what he has so never judge him for mistakes he has made. I love you dad and not a day goes by that you don’t cross my mind. Forever 32. Rest easy dad I know you’re in heaven with nana looking down on me everyday.
ReplyDeleteIm glad you wrote this! I hate how this article tried to make him look like a pos.
