Two motorcyclists killed in separate crashes

AURORA | Two motorcyclists were killed in separate crashes Friday night in Aurora, police said.

The first crash happened about 8:15 p.m. near East Alameda Avenue and South Troy Street.

When police arrived, they found a silver Honda Civic that had been in a collision with a black motorcycle.

Police found the motorcycle rider 300 feet to the east, police said.

Investigators believe the motorcycle was headed east on Alameda about 65 mph in a 40 mph zone. An officer watching for speeders in the area saw the motorcycle racing another motorcycle a few minutes before the crash but did not try to stop the bikes because he didn’t believe he could catch up to them.

When police arrived at the scene, they found only one motorcycle. The rider was wearing a helmet but died at the scene, police said.

Witnesses told police they believed the two bikes were speeding at more than 100 mph.
