AURORA | An FBI report released last week shows the internet remains an ideal place for criminals to prey on victims, and Colorado residents are more likely to be victimized than residents in 48 other states.
The annual report is compiled by the Internet Crime Complaint Center, a partnership between the FBI and the National White Collar Crime Center.
According to the report, the center, commonly called IC3, received 303,809 complaints of Internet crime in 2010, the second-highest total in the center’s 10-year history.
The center received more than 8,2000 complaints from Colorado in 2010, which made up for about 2.7 percent of the complaints the center received, the report said.
Colorado ranked second behind only Alaska in terms of complainants per 100,000 residents, according to the report. The state had 135 complaints per 100,000 people last year, compared to Alaska’s high of 567 per 100,000.
