CSP: Aurora man drove 'mobile meth lab'

AURORA | The Colorado State Patrol arrested an Aurora man early Thursday morning near Blackhawk driving what troopers called a “mobile meth lab.”

Chad Buchanan, 36, was arrested around 6:20 a.m. on Colorado Highway 119 after troopers pulled him over for speeding through a construction zone. 

Troopers said Buchanan faces several charges, including intent to manufacture a controlled substance, driving while license was suspended, and speeding in an active construction zone.

This morning at 6:23 a.m. Colorado State troopers stopped a vehicle for speeding through an active construction zone northbound Highway 119 at MP 6, near the city of Blackhawk. The adult male driver, Chad Buchanan, 36, of Aurora, was taken into custody subsequent to the stop.

Following the arrest of the driver, troopers found drug paraphernalia and other items consistent with the makings of a meth lab. The Colorado State Patrol Hazardous Materials (HazMat) Unit responded to the scene. The CSP HazMat Unit classifies hazardous materials to determine the danger and precautions that must take place in order for a certified clean up contractor to dispose of the material.

The West Metro Drug Task Force is currently assisting the Colorado State Patrol with the clean- up and disposal of these materials. Both lanes of northbound Highway 119 were closed for approximately five hours while Colorado State Patrol conducted an on-scene investigation. No members of the public were in any immediate danger as a result of this incident.

Buchanan faces charges of: Intent to Manufacture a Controlled Substance, Driving While License was Suspended, and Speeding in an Active Construction Zone.
